The Suwannee River Water Management District reports The Santa Fe River at O Leno State Park has been in a minor flood stage since last week.
Senior Hydrologist at Suwannee River Water Management District, Tom Mirti said the weather conditions are expected. Tropical storms typically have the most impact on the Santa Fe Basin as opposed to the Suwannee River in general, so we’ve been focusing on that Basin, he said.
Mirti said heavy rainfall could make river flooding worse. We’ve had 10 inches of rainfall across the district during the month of June. It’s been a little bit dry ahead the past few days, and that’s been good ahead of a storm, but we have soil conditions and ground conditions that are particularly high and that creates localized flooding, he said. ....
