SCV News | Henry Mayo Now Inoculating Educators with COVID-19 Vaccine

Santa Clarita Valley educators were next in line to receive their COVID-19 vaccine shots at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Monday, more than two months after the hospital received its first batch of vaccines for hospital frontline workers. The hospital officially launched its vaccine clinic for local educators as it wraps up the inoculation of healthcare workers, according to Henry Mayo spokesman Patrick Moody. On Friday, Los Angeles County Public Health officials announced that starting Monday, three additional sectors can now get vaccinated: education and childcare workers, food and agriculture workers, and emergency services and law enforcement workers. At this time, Henry Mayo will only vaccinate those in the education sector across Santa Clarita Valley-based school districts, including private schools, according to Dr. Bud Lawrence, medical director of Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital’s Emergency Department.

Because of the recent rainfall, Los Angeles County Health Officer Muntu Davis, MD, MPH, is cautioning residents about beach water use due to bacteria, chemicals, debris, trash, and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas that are likely to contaminate ocean waters at and around discharging storm drains, creeks, and rivers. Individuals who enter the water in these areas could become ill. This advisory will be in effect until at least Wednesday, January 27 at 7:30 a.m. and may be extended depending on further rainfall. Recorded information on beach water use conditions is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-525-5662.

SCVNews com | Santa Clarita Could Grant $126K to 6 Projects to Aid SCV Homeless Population

A series of projects brought forth by Santa Clarita Valley-based organizations and agencies to aid the local homeless population could soon receive thousands of dollars from the city of Santa Clarita. City Council members are expected Tuesday to discuss whether to approve six community proposals and distribute a total of $126,493 to fund each one via the 2021 Homeless Innovation Fund Grant. The city’s grant allocation is part of $6 million from Los Angeles County, which the Board of Supervisors approved in 2019 to distribute to cities so that they can “develop and pilot new and creative services or to further assist individual cities (to) implement goals in their action plans,” according to a city agenda report.

SCV News | COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout at Nursing Homes Still Pending in SCV

The rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine for residents and staff members of nursing homes across California has commenced, but those in the Santa Clarita Valley continue to wait. There are nearly 760 settings across Los Angeles County with active coronavirus cases as of Friday, according to data from the county Public Health Department, which indicated its count is “dynamic and may not reflect real-time investigation counts for these settings.” Among the list of nursing homes was Atria Santa Clarita, with 18 cases among residents and 26 staff; Oakmont of Santa Clarita with 18 residents and 10 staff; Pacifica Senior Living Santa Clarita with 31 residents and 12 staff; Santa Clarita Home for the Elderly in Saugus, with five residents and three staff; Santa Clarita Post Acute Care Center in Newhall, with 51 residents and 37 staff; and Sunrise at Sterling Canyon with three residents and 13 staff.
