The Environmental Protection Agency announced the Tuscola County Economic Development Corporation has been selected to receive $600,000 in brownfield funding through its multipurpose, assessment and cleanup grants.
Tuscola County EDC Executive Director Stephen Erickson said this funding was applied in partnership with Huron and Sanilac counties and would be primarily used for property assessments, where reviews are conducted to determine what is present at the property and what it would cost to alleviate ....

TUSCOLA COUNTY Hopes are high that the pandemic will either be over or under control by fall when Ann Hepfer retires. Hepfer is the health officer for both the Huron and the Tuscola County health departments.
Whether it is or isn’t, Tuscola County commissioners have concerns about the future of the department and how much control it has over operations, as well as the selection of a new health officer.
Hepfer announced her retirement to the Huron County Board of Commissioners in March, and informed the Tuscola board in April. ....

Thumb Industries sold some of its recycling equipment to Sanilac County and some to Tuscola County.
The agency discontinued recycling partly due to declining commodity prices and lack of financial support from the county.
“Thumb Industries closed down their operation about a year ago, and they are selling the equipment,” said Mike Miller, who is Tuscola County’s recycling director as well as the county’s building and grounds director. “Our recycling committee gave me permission to look at their balers and get a price for them and for transportation. ....

White supremacy propaganda is on the rise in Michigan, according to a new report from the Anti-Defamation League.
There were 5,125 cases of racist, antisemitic and other hateful incidents reported by ADL in 2020. This is the highest level of cases ever reported, according to the league. ADL reported an average of about 14 incidents reported per day and nearly double the 2,713 cases reported in 2019. ....

With many efforts already in progress to increase broadband connectivity in rural Michigan, another plan is in the works from one of the state’s congressmen.
U.S. Rep.
