UMass Memorial Health Care to start paying rent for COVID field hospital at Worcester DCU Center

UMass Memorial Health Care to start paying rent for COVID field hospital at Worcester DCU Center Updated Jan 22, 2021; UMass Memorial Health Care has agreed to start paying full rent for space it’s using at the Worcester DCU Center to run a COVID-19 field hospital. The Central Massachusetts health care system first ran a field hospital there last spring during the initial surge of the pandemic. When case counts rose again in the fall, the field hospital reopened and started treating patients in December. In November, the Civic Center Commission voted to allow UMass Memorial to use the space rent-free for two months. Following a commission meeting Thursday, UMass Memorial has agreed to start paying full rental costs.

Goolugatup Sailing Carnival at South of Perth Yacht Club, Western Australia

Goolugatup Sailing Carnival in Western Australia © Bernie Kaaks To celebrate the 75th year of the South of Perth Yacht Club, the inaugural Goolugatup Sailing Carnival was sailed in the first couple of weeks in January 2021. The Flying Fifteens competed in 10 races during the first week and the regatta continued with the Optimist State Championships and the Youth State Championships in the second week along with racing in a variety of skiff classes and foiling kite and sail boards. A strong easterly to south-easterly system was well established prior to the regatta and made for some very demanding sailing for the first 3 days and highlighted a few areas needing additional maintenance in the boats and bodies.

How Worcester attracts big Hollywood productions — and their big bucks

How Worcester attracts big Hollywood productions and their big bucks WORCESTER  With hockey players and rock musicians absent from the DCU Center, the stage was clear for Meryl Streep. The Academy Award winner filmed a scene for Netflix’s “Don’t Look Up” inside the city-owned arena last week. At the DCU or on Main Street, the clack of a camera slate is a familiar one in Worcester. A handful of movies have filmed scenes in the city in recent years, from Liam Neeson in Honest Thief to  Matthew McConaughey in The Sea of Trees. Behind the scenes, one of the more important members of the supporting cast is Edgar Luna. If you’re a Hollywood bigshot or a small independent movie company and you want to film in Worcester, you have to speak to Luna first.
