Plans for new ambulance service hub off Shidas Lane in Oldbury

West Midlands Ambulance Service wants to build a base on empty land off Shidas Lane in Oldbury. The vacant site is opposite Sandwell Council s tip. If plans get the go-ahead the building would have 365 parking spaces and would home West Midlands Ambulance Services Operations, Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and the service s training and distribution functions. The proposal from WMAS The application to Sandwell Council states: West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust (WMAS) serves a population of 5.6 million people covering more than 5,000 miles 2 made up of Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Coventry, Birmingham and Black Country conurbation. As the region’s emergency ambulance service, WMAS respond to around 4,000 ‘999’ calls each day.

Latest Covid rates in Dudley and Sandwell ahead of tier review

INFECTION rates across Dudley and Sandwell are rising according to latest figures - as the tier system is set to come up for review tomorrow. Dudley s overall infection rate in the week up to December 23 was 306.6 cases per 100,000 people - with 986 cases recorded in the seven days - up 37.1 per cent. This is slightly above the national average. Sandwell s infection rate in the same period was slightly higher at 343.1 cases per 100,000 people - with 1,127 cases recorded, this is up 34.2 per cent, again above the national average. The next level of infection rate is between 400 - 799 with these areas recorded in purple on the Government s interactive Covid-19 map which can be seen at https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map.
