MMEA seizes over 100k contraband cigarettes in Sandakan zone

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has seized 103,460 contraband cigarette sticks estimated to be worth RM18,978 untaxed in the Sandakan zone Tuesday (Feb 16).
The items were confiscated at an unnumbered premises in Perkampungan Air Batu 3 in Sandakan, according to a statement issued by the Sandakan Maritime Zone public relations unit.
Sandakan Maritime Zone director Maritime Captain Zainudin Mohd Zuki said the raid was conducted following a tip-off from the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) intelligence division, that the unnumbered premises in the coastal village was turned into a storage area for contraband cigarette.
Upon inspection, the items were found hidden within the wall and under the floor of the premises. ....
