It is still smoky with fire bumping here downtown. But here is a look at what it looks like yesterday. It swept through downtown destroying homes and cars and businesses. 4,000 people have been evacuated and everyone got out okay with no injuries reported. Firefighters officially say that ten structures destroyed, we can look around and we suspect that number is going to climb. Here is what the postmaster told us about the town. They were able to save the post office, there is a fire hydrant in front of office and they were able to save our post office as well as the tire shop next door but unfortunately the Sandwich Shop we are directly next to, was lost. This started on saturday afternoon and, really, whipped up yesterday, they are calling it the clayton fire and they describe the fires behavior as intense. Right now, they are saying
Alarming. It said leave Contra Costa County right now. Reporter eric was in danville when he got an alert text message. It says Emergency Alert in this area until 7 45 p. M. Evacuate now. It just said that there was a severe emergency and get out of Contra Costa County. Reporter he took the warning seriously. Calling his family, telling them to leave the county. And evacuating la boulange. We swiftly evacuated everyone out of the premises. And thats when we evacuated the store. And went to santa cruz. Reporter he headed south, not knowing what the emergency was. I had no idea until we googled it. And it said there was a gas leak on danville boulevard. Reporter the gas leak was about three miles away. Emergency workers did evacuate a threeblock area as a precaution. Contra costa county says the countys emergency system worked. Sending alerts with details about the emergency. But the public Warning System had a glitch. For whatever reason, they were updating their system. Had not alerted

As that car drives around town, those cameras scan and read every license plate within roughly 30 feet and alerts the officer if hearn has come across a stolen vehicle or a car, lemon say, registered to someone with an outstanding warrant. Police say this is much more efficient and i lous officers to keep their eyes on the roads. Starting august 26th, Santa Clara Sheriffs Office will Start Holding onto the information at least a year that would be a database invaluable for investigators trying to lets say track the past movement of a known criminal, but not every car stored in that database obviously belongs to a bad guy.
