A representative from the court-appointed receiver's office said some system improvements have been implemented, but long-term stability for Big Basin Water Co. is still an open question even after the water provider, with help from the county, won more than $1 million in grant funding from local, state and federal authorities since November.
Rep. Jimmy Panetta announced Friday that he has secured more than $5.53 million in federal community project funding for six initiatives across Santa Cruz County ranging from affordable housing to childcare and infrastructure projects.
The project, which cost $887,745, removed the aging and undersized redwood water tank deep in the mountains and replaced it with a new, 120,000-gallon bolted steel tank nearly 30 feet in diameter and more than 32 feet tall.
