tv, all weekend, every weekend on c-span3. up next on american history tv douglas wrinkly, author of the wilderness warrior recounts theodore roosevelt s time in the west and how his experience there shaped his presidency. we also hear about roosevelt s charge of san juan hill in the spanish-american war and how his conservation efforts led to the protection of over 150 thousand acres 150 million acres of american land. this is about two hours. doug: good evening. it is an honor to be here at the new york historical society and try to shed some light on one of my heroes, theodore roosevelt, and why he s considered a great leader. when the schwartzes wanted to make this series go, they really want us to focus on leadership qualities. and i m telling you there s no president quite like t.r. to get to talk about that. i wanted to begin thinking about roosevelt being new york city s president. being born here in 1858. because in his household growing up in new york, h ....

[applause] heroes are here. my friends, my friends, today i stand here in the presence of so many heroes. former political prisoners, the heroes of the 2506 brigade. [cheers and applause] . d so many of you [applause] so many others. so many others who have suffered under the hands and by the hands of the castro regime. let me just talk about theberry good. the brigade is a symbol of dignity. made up of men and women, made up of men who have personified sacrifice and heroism. and who, having experienced betrayal, have nevertheless never wavered in the struggle for freedom. now, many presidents, many presidents have made commitments . but unfortunately some of those were not kept. when our brave heroes were promised support on april 17, 1961, they were betrayed and the support neve ....
