Residue from the oil spill in the gulf of mexico is spreading into new areas. three florida beaches are seeing clumps of tar wash ashore for the first time, destin, ft. wallton and panama city beach. peter alexander is live in destin for us. reporter: good morning. we don t want to overstate this. at this point it s quarter size and nickel size clutches of tar balls but it s significant because this is the farrest east that any of the tar, oil spill s remnants, have already made it. we re in san destin, a gorgeous place. these are sugar-white beaches, turquoise waters that everyone s concerned about protecting throughout the region. but if you go from panama city, further east of us, all the way to pensacola, that 100-mile stretch is an area of the panhandle that people are concerned about right now. we ve seen what s happened in places like gulf shores and ....

and splash on the silver screen. 35 years ago today, jaws scared us out of the water and changed hollywood forever. a lot of people still having nightmares over that one. good morning, i m krichris jans in for alex witt. new development this morning in the gulf of mexico oil spill as we reach day 62 of the disaster. gobs of tar are washing up on three more florida beaches for the first time. destin, ft. walton and panama city beach. after a ten-hour shutdown, the oil containment system capturing some of the spewing oil is back working this morning. the system was shut down temporarily friday night because of a blocked flame arrester. and a congressional delegation will head to the louisiana coast tomorrow. congressman betty thompson, chairman of the homeland security committee, he ll lead the delegation as they take a closer look at response to the disaster. the visit will include a flyover of the affected areas. we have live team coverage for you this morning. ....

good morning, i m chris jansing in for alex witt. welcome into msnbc sunday. new developments in the gulf of mexico oil spill as the disaster reaches day 62. more florida beaches are threatened, as residue from the spill travels farther east. gobs of tar washing up in defendadestin and ft. waltton. they don t have what they need to fight back. this is harsh. this is in some very, very harsh news for people to hear, and it s very frustrating for people to hear that the tools don t exist in enough quantity and even if they had enough tools, it s not 100% effective. bp s ceo tony hayward the target of fresh outrage from people on the gulf of mexico. they took time out to watch his 52-foot yacht compete in a glitzy race off the coast. new numbers on how much bp is paying out to victims. it s paying $104 million to resident as long the gulf coast, after receiving 64,000 claims so far. let s get an update on the effort to contain the gushing oil. nbc s charles hadlock ....
