The ECOWAS Community Court of Justice sitting in Abuja has given the Nigerian government thirty (30) days to respond to the suit filed by One Love Foundation through a human rights lawyer, Samuel Ihensekhien, seeking reparation for the family of Miss Jumoke, who was killed recently.
Jumoke, who was 14 years old, was allegedly killed by stray bullets reportedly fired by one of the police officers led by the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, while the police were dispersing the agitators at Ojota. ....

Group Drags FG to ECOWAS Court over Minor's Murder

A civil society organisation One Love Foundation has dragged the federal government to the ECOWAS Court of Justice over the death of a 14-year-old girl, Jumoke Oyeleke, who was shot dead during a rally in support of Yoruba Nation in Lagos last week.
The President of the foundation, Patrick Eholor filed the suit at the court through his counsel, Samuel Ihensekhien recently to determine whether the federal government had the power to crack down on the peaceful protesters..
Eholor explained that he filed the court action to halt the continuous intimidation, suppression, harassment, killing and sometimes shooting of peaceful protesters while exercising their fundamental right to peaceful protest. ....

Assault: CCT chairman appears before Senate panel
PREMIUM TIMES reported how the CCT boss was caught on camera physically assaulting Mr Sargwak, at Banex Plaza, Wuse 2, Abuja.
Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, on Tuesday.
This was in response to a petition submitted against him by Clement Sagwak, a security guard he assaulted.
Mr Sagwak had, through his counsel, Timzing Ramnap, petitioned the Senate where he accused Mr Umar of assaulting him.
The senator representing Plateau North, Istifanus Gyang, laid the petition before the Senate on April 29.
Mr Umar was summoned by the panel and asked to come to defend himself. ....

Senate to probe assault by CCT chairman on security guard
The victim had told PREMIUM TIMES that he was attacked by Mr Umar after he approached the public official for parking wrongly.

The Senate has directed its Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to probe the physical assault by the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, on a security guard, Clement Sagwak.
Mr Sagwak petitioned the Senate demanding a probe into the incident that took place in March.
The petition was laid before the Senate during plenary on Tuesday by Istifanus Gyang (PDP, Pleateau North) – the senatorial district to which Mr Sagwak belongs. ....
