The conversation begins with the people who helped guide these student poets: Caleb Rainey and Leah Waughtal. Rainey is a poet and spoken word performer, also known as “The Negro Artist,” and the founder and program director of IC Speaks, a spoken word poetry program in Iowa City. Waughtal is also a poet and Movement 515 coordinator, a spoken word program that is part of RUN DSM in Des Moines.
