Nestled in the harbors of Vancouver, the Tsleil-Waututh Nation has lived for thousands of years within an inlet set against the mountain views of the Pacific north-west.
But across the water from Tsleil-Waututh Nationâs reserve, less than 2km away, or a little over a mile, is a jarring juxtaposition: an industrial terminal for the large Trans Mountain oil pipeline.
Oil tankers have frequented the terminal weekly for years, and now it is being enlarged so Trans Mountain can triple the amount of oil it transports from the landlocked oil sands of Alberta to the west coast. Traffic will increase by sevenfold â bringing in up to 34 giant oil tankers a month and three barges, the Canadian government-owned company has forecasted. ....

Trans Mountain ends contracts with 2 companies on halted expansion project

SA Energy is a member of the Pipeline Contractors Association of Canada.
Trans Mountain did not explain why two of the contracts with SA were terminated.
Insist on safety
We do not wish to comment on the terms of our contractual relationships with contractors, Trans Mountain said this weekend. What we can say is that Trans Mountain is committed to a strong culture of safety above all else and insist that our project contractors and subcontractors are equally committed.
Trans Mountain also ended its contract, a joint venture, with Spiecapag Canada Corp. and Fort St. John s Macro Enterprises Inc.
