Coronavirus: Latest figures for Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire


THERE have been 309 new coronavirus cases reported in Hywel Dda health board’s area according to today’s (Friday, December 18) figures.
Public Health Wales figures show 54 new cases of Covid-19 recorded in Pembrokeshire from 429 tests, 36 in Ceredigion out of 252 tests and 219 in Carmarthenshire from 977 tests.
Three additional deaths have been recorded in Hywel Dda, with the total number of people who have died with coronavirus standing at 160.
There has now been a total of 1,633 cases in Pembrokeshire reported throughout the pandemic, 957 in Ceredigion and 6,734 in Carmarthenshire.
There were 2,801 new cases reported across Wales, with Public Health Wales recording 38 new deaths. ....

We are heading into a perfect storm, she said.

Already we are entering Christmas with rates which are extremely high, we could be heading into a situation where we have a no deal Brexit, we have the winter pressures that are already on the NHS, and so all of these things combined really do make us concerned about the future.
That s why the second lockdown doesn t have a clear end to it.
What we have learned from the firebreak was that if you set a deadline and then the situation changes, then you need to be able to adapt. That s why we haven t set a deadline for coming out of this next phase. ....

Mental health support services available from Samaritans Cymru


The latest figures from the charity s CALL mental health hotline show that being separated from family and loved ones over the Christmas period is one of the biggest concerns facing callers, whilst a quarter of 1,400 callers over the last three months said they were concerned about their wellbeing over Christmas and the winter period.
The Welsh Government spends more on mental health - more than £700 million - than on any other aspect of the NHS in Wales. This year, additional funding of nearly £10m has been put into mental health support directly in response to the impact of the pandemic. ....
