The Bravery

The Bravery
The Bravery was an American rock band formed in New York City in 2003 that consisted of lead vocalist Sam Endicott, guitarist Michael Zakarin, keyboardist John Conway, bassist Mike Hindert and drummer Anthony Burulcich.
They released three studio albums:
The Bravery (2005),
The Sun and the Moon (2007) and
Stir the Blood (2009). They also released a remixed edition of its second album called
The Sun and the Moon Complete in 2008 and an Internet live album called
Live at the Wiltern Theater in 2010. Their music can be best described as post-punk dance influenced rock and roll.
In April 2014, Endicott revealed through The Bravery s website and Facebook page that all the members are taking part in separate avenues of creative interests and that, for now, there are no plans for The Bravery in the foreseeable future. ....

A history of indie bands writing songs for pop stars

“A-wooo!” howled Shakira on 2009’s ‘She Wolf’, and the indie pack descended on pop’s jugular. That song, you see, was co-written with Sam Endicott of ‘00s synth-rock jawlines The Bravery and represented a surreptitious behind-the-scenes truce in the bitter, decades-long civil war between rock and pop.
Until then, most pop/rock crossovers had been little more than tokenistic PR exercises, transparent transfusions of credibility from a Manics to a Kylie, a Costello to a Wendy James or a Stephen Duffy to a Robbie. But as streaming eroded rock’s authority over the charts to the level of a fuzz-pedalled Jackie Weaver, writing songs for pop acts increasingly became a means for alt-rockers to keep themselves afloat. ....

It seems anachronistic now, but singles used to matter. I mean,
really matter. Having a catchy song hang around the upper echelons of the chart and gain heavy rotation on radio and music TV (remember music TV?) was the gateway to million dollar record deals and your album selling by the truckload, a causal link that just doesn’t exist these days no matter how many hits, views and likes an artist can rack up.
Don’t believe me? Len’s ‘Steal My Sunshine’, due for re-release through Alcopop on the 16th June, shifted an alleged 16,000 copies per week at the height of its popularity back in 1999, and led to their album ....
