Saturday, 24 April 2021 Olympic champion Eleftherios Petrounias secured his fifth European Artistic Gymnastics Championships rings title on the first day of apparatus finals in Basel. The Greek three-time world champion justified his status as the favourite with an assured display at St. Jakobshalle. Petrounias scored 15.400 to beat recently-crowned all-around champion Nikita Nagornyy of Russia, who took silver on 15.033. Italy s Salvatore Maresca did enough for bronze after scoring 14.900. Switzerland s Giulia Steingruber clinched her fourth European crown in the vault event after her routine was rewarded with a score of 14.824.
