WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah â With Utahâs coronavirus vaccination effort underway, Pacific Islanders and Native Hawaiians are desperate to get access to it.
âThe statistics show that we are as Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders in the state of Utah, we have the highest infection rate. We also have the second highest hospitalization rate,â said Anapesi Kaili.
Kaili is the director and principal at Mana Academy Charter School in West Valley City. According to statistics, 85% of her student are Pacific Islanders, and many live with an elderly family member at high risk of contracting the virus. ....

I am a 75 year old resident of Salt Lake County and this past week I received my first COVID-19 vaccination at the parking lot near the Maverik Center. I was full of gratitude to the Salt Lake County Health Department and their employees who were helping all of us who were lined up in our cars to get our vaccinations. All of them were polite, kind and helpful. I appreciated that they were willing to work out in the cold so we could be vaccinated. They even helped me set up my appointment for the second vaccination. ....

Utah’s Office Of Tourism Getting $1 Million In Federal Aid
Utah’s Office of Tourism announced Tuesday it will receive $1 million in federal CARES act money. Tourism has been one of the hardest-hit industries during the pandemic, as fewer people are traveling. The funds will be used on a two-year project that will include a training program, marketing campaign and recovery plan for certain destinations. The state will also contribute $250,000. The tourism office said the grant will help create a little more than 250 high paying or high skill jobs. ....
