New Vail Health program aims to create a stronger workforce, literally

With 18 percent of Eagle County residents uninsured, more than triple the state average of 6.5 percent, filling the gap in health care services for the uninsured is essential.
Those are the words of Vail Health professionals who are rolling out a new program called Community SafeHealth, which will “guide and encourage uninsured and underinsured Eagle County residents to develop healthier habits,” said Sally Welsh with Vail Health. ....

Vail Health vaccine appointments fill quickly for patients 70 and older

Vail Health began administering COVID-19 vaccinations Wednesday to the local patient population ages 70 and older.
Vail Health received 1,600 doses in the first allotment of the Moderna vaccine for the 70-and-over age group, said Sally Welsh, Vail Health’s public relations director, on Tuesday.
Welsh said while the hospital’s Jan 6-8 and Jan. 13 appointments filled quickly, “there will be many other opportunities, estimated at a weekly cadence.”
“There is limited advance notice of when or how many doses Vail Health will receive, and the demand for vaccines currently extends beyond what is available,” Welsh said in an email. “Vail Health asks for the continued patience from community members as we work with public health to administer the vaccines.” ....

Coronavirus vaccinations underway at Vail Health

Amid cameras and applause, Vail Health Hospital administered its first COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday to Lead Respiratory Therapist Julie Scales.
Scales’ personal experience with COVID-19 made her the ideal recipient for the ceremonial first shot, said Vail Health Director of Public Relations Sally Welsh.
Scales tested positive for COVID-19 on March 14, a few days before nearby Vail Mountain shut down due to the virus.
“It was very scary,” she said. “It was just so new.”
Scales visited the Vail ER and was transferred to a Denver area hospital the following day, where she was placed on a ventilator for seven days. Her daughter, who also lives in Eagle County, was with her emotionally through the process, and upon receiving the vaccine on Wednesday, Scales’ first reaction was to embrace her daughter. ....

First vaccine shipments arrive at Vail Health
