The Artichoke Festival will back on at the Monterey Fairgrounds. The festival will be held on July 24 and 25, with a focus on local food, entertainment and agricultural activities and the promise of a good time. The annual Artichoke Festival has been happening since 1959 and none other than Marilyn Monroe was the first Artichoke Queen in 1948. As of 2013, the artichoke has been California’s official state vegetable and Castroville is known as the “Artichoke Center of the World.” The festival was put on pause last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but people were able to donate through their website, with proceeds going to local nonprofits. ....
