Wick Green: Campaigners rejoice as open space saved from care home plan


CAMPAIGNERS are toasting success after care home plans for a “green lung” in Wickford were scrapped following a battle of more than two years.
Wick Green has now been “saved” after council bosses scrapped a deal to build a care home on the land.
Officers will now investigate protecting the land for years to come from any building or development.
Campaigners Wickford SOS embarked on a 28-month journey to stop developing the land.
George Jeffery, Basildon Conservative councillor representing Wickford Park, who backed the campaign, said: “It’s an amazing turnaround.
“With green spaces like this, you don’t know what you’ve got until you’ve lost it, or about to lose it. ....

Wickford Wick Green: Victory over plans to sell off 'green lung' | Braintree and Witham Times


PLANS to sell off open space described as the “green lung of Wickford” are set to be scrapped after a fight from campaigners.
Wickford SOS submitted a freedom of information request to Basildon Council about the sale of land known as Wick Green, at the junction with Salcott Crescent and Radwinter Avenue, to try to stop the land being built on.
The group was told a deal to sell the land was signed by Basildon Council and developer Montpellier on May 4.
Now Andrew Baggott, leader of Basildon Conservatives, said his new administration - which took over from Labour in the elections last week - will stop the plans after listening to the community. ....
