More Stellantis managers charged in diesel cheating case

Prosecutors have charged two more senior managers in a growing diesel emissions scandal for Stellantis, the company formed from the merger earlier this year of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Peugeot maker PSA Group.
In a case with echoes of Volkswagen s expansive diesel emissions scandal, the charges against the Stellantis managers accuse them of being part of a conspiracy to cheat U.S. diesel emissions tests on approximately 100,000 2014-16 EcoDiesel Ram 1500 pickups and Jeep Grand Cherokees. Those efforts, prosecutors said, allowed the company s affected trucks and SUVs to emit more of the poisonous nitrogen oxides than they were supposed to when owners were driving them on the roads and to meet fuel-efficiency targets. ....

WASHINGTON, April 20 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department on Tuesday said two Fiat Chrysler senior managers in Italy had been indicted in the ongoing probe into diesel emissions cheating at the Italian-American automaker.
In January 2019 Fiat Chrysler agreed to an $800 million settlement to resolve civil claims that it used illegal software that produced false results on diesel-emissions tests in more than 100,000 U.S. vehicles. The Justice Department s criminal investigation into the company, which has since changed its name to Stellantis NV, is pending. ....

An indictment was unsealed today in the Eastern District of Michigan charging two Italian nationals, along with a previously charged co-conspirator, for their alleged role in a conspiracy to defraud U.S. regulators and customers by making false and misleading statements about the emissions controls and fuel efficiency of more than 100,000 diesel vehicles sold in the United States by FCA US LLC.
According to court documents, Sergio Pasini, 43, of Ferrera, Italy, and Gianluca Sabbioni, 55, of Sala Bolognese, Italy, two senior diesel managers at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Italy S.p.A. (FCA Italy), a wholly owned subsidiary of Stellantis N.V. along with a previously charged co-conspirator, Emanuele Palma, 42, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan were responsible for developing and calibrating the 3.0-liter diesel engin ....
