New Jersey Herald It was supposed to be a simple exchange of vehicles between the two Army soldiers in upstate New York: Hayden Harris Ford Mustang for Jamaal Mellish s Chevrolet Silverado. But the transaction outside Fort Drum last month quickly went awry, prosecutors said on Wednesday: Mellish, they said, pulled a handgun and gave it to his girlfriend s 16-year-old brother, who was also at the meeting. Around 1 a.m. on Dec. 19, prosecutors said, Mellish shot his fellow soldier in the head, then left his body partially buried in the snow. ....

Once there, Rogers allegedly used a 4-inch pocket knife to stab the teen in the head, upper chest, armpit and hand. After causing what Hamburg police called life-threatening injuries, Rogers allegedly fled the scene. It was not immediately clear whether Fullman remained, but authorities said another individual called police. The victim was taken to Newton Medical Center, where he received eight staples to his head and 37 stitches, according to Sussex County Assistant Prosecutor Sahil Kabse. The courts have withheld the boy s name because he is a juvenile. ....
