Meanwhile, the surviving pigs and a plethora of unexpected piglets have found new homes at animal sanctuaries in Michigan and beyond. The case began on Feb. 27, when Tittabawassee Township police and Saginaw County Animal Care & Control Center officers went to a property of about 12 acres in the 7200 block of Pierce Road to check the well-being of livestock. “We got a call from a concerned citizen who recognized the pigs were probably in peril,” said Saginaw Animal Care and Control Director Bonnie Kanicki. “We found them with no food, no water, no straw, lying in frozen mud and feces on an abandoned farm. It was a pretty gruesome sight.”
