PESHAWAR: Chief Secretary Kazim Niaz on Thursday formally inaugurated the first climbing wall named after international climber Muhammad Ali Sadpara at Peshawar Sports Complex, with a total cost of Rs10 million under the Prime Minister 1,000 Playground Facilities Project.
The climbing wall has been named after national hero Muhammad Ali Sadpara, a Pakistani high-altitude mountaineer. He was part of the team (which included Italian alpinist Simone Moro) that successfully completed the first-ever winter ascent to the summit of Nanga Parbat in 2016.
Sadpara was notable for having successfully climbed a grand 8000 throughout his career four of which he had ascended in a single calendar year. Sadpara, along with his 21-year-old son Sajid (who had also climbed K2 in 2019), teamed up with Icelandic mountaineer John Snorri Sigurjónsson and Chilean mountaineer Juan Pablo Mohr Prieto fo ....

LAHORE: A candlelight vigil was held at the Government College University (GCU) Lahore to pay tribute to Pakistan’s legendary mountain climber Muhammad Ali Sadpara, who lost his life during an expedition to scale the world’s second-highest peak K2 in the winter season.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi also participated in the candlelight vigil organised by the University’s students from Gilgit Baltistan. Sajid Ali Sadpara, the son of Ali Sadpar, also joined the candlelight vigil through a video link. A one-minute silence was observed in the memory of Ali Sadpara and his fellow mountaineers John Snorri and Juan Pablo. Addressing the GCU students, Sajid Sadpara said he and his family are grateful to the people of Pakistan for their unprecedented love for his father. GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan government will set up the Ali Sadpara Mountaineering School to honour one of the country’s greatest climbers who was declared dead by his family a few days ago.
GB government spokesperson Ali Taj said Ali Sadpara s son Sajid will be employed in the school that will be set up in his memory.
The cabinet, which  approved the establishment of the school, agreed to put forward Muhammad Ali Sadpara s name  to the Government of Pakistan for the country’s highest civil award.  ....

ISLAMABAD: The family of Pakistani mountaineer Ali Sadpara Thursday declared him and two other missing foreign climbers dead. The announcement was made by Ali Sadpara s son, Sajid Sadpara, in Skardu. I will keep my father’s mission alive and fulfil his dream, he said. He also thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and the courageous pilots of the Askari Aviation for conducting a thorough search and rescue operation amid the harsh weather for his father.
Sadpara, Iceland s John Snorri and Chile s Juan Pablo Mohr had departed for their journey on February 3 after Sadpara s birthday, asking fans and admirers to keep us in your prayers . ....
