Paris-Geneva, March 4, 2021 – Over the past five months, the situation of human rights defenders and journalists has deteriorated significantly in Afghanistan, with at least fourteen targeted killings and constant harassment reported. The Observatory (FIDH-OMCT) expresses its utmost concern over this worrying trend and calls on the Afghan authorities to ensure that an end be put to the killings, attacks, and acts of harassment against civil society in the country.
While negotiations have been taking place between the Afghan government and the Taliban since September 12, 2020 in Doha (Qatar) to try to reach a peace agreement, the situation for civil society in the country has been rapidly deteriorating. Head of Sada-e-Ghor Radio, Journalist and civil society activist, Bismillah Adil Aimaq was killed in unknown gunmen attack in Feroz Koh city, the central part of Ghor province, local confirmed to media.
Mohammad Aref Abir, a spokesman to Ghor governor, said that Adil was killed in an attack by unknown armed men, in Dara-e-Taimoor village on the outskirts of the city.
Adil is among many journalists like Rahmatullah Nikzad, Yama Siawash, Elyas Dae, Malala Maiwand, and Fardin Amini were killed in different incidents since November 2020. ....

Afghan journalist shot dead in car ambush

KABUL (Reuters) - An Afghan journalist was shot dead in a car ambush in the central province of Ghor, the fifth media professional to be killed in the country in two months, officials said on Saturday.
Bismellah Adel Aimaq, 28, the editor-in-chief of Sada-e-Ghor (Voice of Ghor) radio station, was killed near Firoz Koh city, the capital of Ghor, on Friday.
No militant group has claimed responsibility for the killing.
“Unfortunately, Bismellah Adel Aimaq, the head of Sada-e Ghor Radio, was killed by unknown gunmen this evening in Firoz Koh.
“He was 28 years old, and started working with Sada-e-Ghor Radio since 2015,” said Habibollah Radmanesh, the deputy governor of Ghor. ....

An Afghan journalist has been shot dead in a car ambush in the central province of Ghor, the fifth media professional to be killed in the war-torn country in two months, officials said.
Bismellah Adel Aimaq, 28, the editor-in-chief of Sada-e-Ghor (Voice of Ghor) radio station, was killed near Firoz Koh city, the capital of Ghor, on Friday.
