Kate Baumgartner plans to finalize the official acquisition Jan. 15 with a reopening date slated Feb. 1. This comes after 21 years of current owner Jenn Courtney at the helm.
When Kate Baumgartner entered Sacred Grounds Cafe for the first time at the age of 12, she told her mother she wished she could work there. Years later, she will finally get her wish but not as an employee.
“It all happened so quickly,” said Baumgartner, about taking over as owner of the beloved cafe in downtown Edwardsville. “Owning a cafe has always been my end game and Sacred Grounds Cafe was the inspiration for it. The food and coffee is always great, but the community is what makes it special.” ....
