Eletrical equiptment was making it hard to put out so they brought in a Carbon Dioxide truck. It suffocates the fire and removes the oxygen and cools it downafter several hours the fire was finally put out and pge could tell us the cause of both that. And the massive power outage that effected such a large swath of the city. We had a Circuit Breaker fail it created a fire around the breaker the insulation around the breaker burned and thats what created the situationpge says exactly why the breaker failed is still being looked into. But its age relatedits simply old equiptment. They are in the process of spending 100 Million Dollars to upgrade that substation. Vicki liviakis is tracking the impact of the outage. pam but first kron4s Charles Clifford joins us live with what we know tonight about the cause pam grant the good news tonight is that pg e says that all power has been restored here in San Francisco and even though this outage was almost city wide, there were apparently no major injuries or accidents. According to pg e, around 919 friday morning there was fire at the larken street substation in San Francisco. The fire appears to have been started when a Circuit Breaker failed. Sotin all, 88 thousand customers in the northern and central parts of San Francisco lost power. 21 schools lost power, 300 Traffic Signals went dark, and muni and bart experienced Power Outages at the montgomery station. Several hospitals also lost power but were able to keep the lights on using backup generators.
