Dana Gingras, Marie Davidson and Sabrina Ratté create living sculpture in Jump Cut #2 A remote audiovisual collaboration that creates “a sense of an altered corporeal reality”. In the wake of the pandemic, choreographer Dana Gingras, founder of Montréal-based multimedia dance company Animals of Distinction, found herself unable to work on the kind of large-scale audiovisual dance works showcased at festivals such as CTM. In response, Gingras conceived Jump Cut, a six-part cable-access-style web series of remote collaborations between multidisciplinary artists from around the world. In the second episode of Jump Cut, available to view above for a limited time, Gingras teams up with Montreal musician and producer Marie Davidson and Paris-based Canadian video artist Sabrina Ratté. The 25-minute piece imagines the body as a living sculpture, as the minutiae of Gingras’ body movements are morphed back and forth between a virtual body animated by Ratté. ....
Yaeji and Weirdcore dive into the world of Pac-Man for ‘PAC-TIVE’ Featuring China and Japan-based creative collective DiAN and a cameo from Yaeji’s animated canine companion, Woofa. Yaeji condenses generations of video game nostalgia into ‘PAC-TIVE’, an inspired and unexpected collaboration with audiovisual trickster Weirdcore that sees the NYC-based, Seoul-born producer and vocalist and the London-based visual artist plunging into a strange, alternate, Pac-Man-themed universe. To mark the game’s 41st anniversary Yaeji is joined by China and Japan-based creative collective DiAN, who lend their vocal talents to a track sampling the original Pac-Man’s sound effects. Working together on the project from their respective bases from an early stage, Yaeji and Weirdcore kept close correspondence in order to realise their creative vision. For Yaeji, the video reflects childhood memories of Korean market fronts, while for Weirdcore the surreal, top-down perspectiv ....
Sabrina Ratté simulates extinct ecosystems with her Floralia series A series of installations, featuring sound design from Andrea-Jane Cornell, that will premiere at the Centre Pompidou as part of Hors Pistes Festival. By utilising a mixture of photography, 3D animation and analog technologies, Canada-born, Paris-based artist Sabrina Ratté investigates the interplay between surroundings and subjectivity. Her practice includes video, animation, installations, sculptures, audio-visual performances and prints, all of which function in service of a multidisciplinary exploration of space, both digital and physical. For her latest video series, Floralia, Ratté draws inspiration from the writing of Donna J. Haraway, the author of A Cyborg Manifesto, as well as science-fiction writers Ursula K. Le Guin and Greg Egan, as she imagines a speculative future in which samples of extinct plant species are preserved and displayed in a virtual archive room. ....
