DHAKA, Bangladesh (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Apr, 2021 ) :– The death toll fromSunday s ferry capsizing in central Bangladesh rose to 34, rescue officials said on Tuesday.
Five more bodies were recovered from the Shitalakkhya River near the capital Dhaka on Tuesday, while another two were retrieved on Monday night in the water, Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of the NarayanganjFire Service and Civil Defense, told Anadolu Agency.
Earlier, 27 bodies were found late Monday before the rescue operation was concluded for the day.
We retrieved 34 bodies out of a total 33 officially listed missing passengers, and 20 passengers on the vessel managed to survive. Though we completed the rescue operation, we re still trying to collect information to see if there are any missing people, he added. ....

DHAKA: Rescuers have recovered 28 bodies from a river outside Bangladesh’s capital after a ferry collided with another vessel and capsized, an official said on Monday.
The ferry ML Rabit Al Hasan sank on Sunday night after being hit by a cargo vessel in the Shitalakkhya River in Narayanganj district, just outside Dhaka, officials said.
The search for survivors from the ferry disaster was called off on Monday, officials said, with the death toll rising to 28 when rescuers pulled the vessel from the water and found bodies inside. ....

Six more bodies were recovered from Shitalakkya river this morning (Tuesday) a day after wrapping up two-day salvage operation following a Munshiganj-bound passenger launch capsized, climbing the death toll to 35.
The bodies have been floating between Char Syedpur and Shah Cement Factory area in the river since 6:00am, said Younus, Sub-Inspector of River Police in Narayanganj.
On information, river police searched and recovered the bodies till 10:30am on Tuesday, he said.
With the latest recovery, the death toll rose to 35 as the leaders of the launch owners association claimed that over 70 passengers were on board of the passenger launch. ....

The identities of the six could not be known immediately.
The launch named Sabit Al Hasan left Narayanganj Launch Terminal for Munshiganj with nearly 50 passengers around 5:56pm on Sunday. Around 15 minutes later, it sank near the third Shitalakkhya Bridge at Koylaghat of Syedpur area when it was hit and dragged by a tanker.
Immediately after the accident, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Fire Service and Civil Defence, Coast Guard, and Police joined the rescue operation.
