The latest tourism statistics show South Africa's "journey to rapid recovery is well under way", with first-quarter figures showing a 102% increase in visitors compared with the same period in 2022.
While the calls for a dedicated police unit are still in the early stages, Deputy Tourism Minister Amos Mahlalela said that goverment was addressing safety concerns.
The three-day affair is set to boost market access for businesses across the continent as they showcase their products to international and local buyers.
