The South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD) on Friday welcomed the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) denying South Africa’s request for a ceasefire in Israel’s war in Gaza, saying the court had recognised Israel’s right to defend its citizens.
While Hamas has welcomed South Africa taking Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the SA Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD) has slammed the government for including a meeting it held with the SAJBD to make its case.
The South African Jewish Board of Deputies says while parliament has adopted a motion to cut ties with Israel pending a ceasefire and a UN-led negotiated settlement between Israel and Palestine, it is up to the government to make the decision.
