에쓰오일이 지난 1분기에 이어 2분기에도 ‘어닝 서프라이즈’를 시현하며 반기 기준 창사 이래 최대 경영 실적을 경신한 가운데, 여기에는 후세인 알 카타니 에쓰오일 CEO의 ‘위기 대응’ 리더십이 주효했다는 진단이 나온다.
에쓰오일은 지난 27일에 올해 2분기 잠정 실적을 공시하면서, 매출액 6조7110억원과 영업이익 5710억원을 기록했다고 밝혔다. 올 상반기로 따지면 매출 및 영업익은 각각 12조558억원과 1조2002억원이다. 매출은 전년 동기 대비 39.4% 증가했으며, 영업익은 2016년 상반기에 달성했던 기존 최대 기록인 1조1326억원을 뛰어넘는 수치다.
이는 지속되는 정제 마진 약세와 재고 평가 이익 축소 등의 불리한 여건에서 시장 예상치를 크게 웃도는 실적이라 주목을 받고 있다.
