Sensex tumbles 451 pts, Nifty holds 14,700 mark


Barometers traded near the day s low with steep losses in mid-morning trade. PSU banks and media shares bucked a weak market trend.
At 11:26 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 451.89 points or 0.93% at 48,716.68. The Nifty 50 index declined 128.35 points or 0.86% at 14,722.35.
In broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was down 0.58% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index fell 0.26%.
The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 1447 shares rose and 1316 shares fell. A total of 166 shares were unchanged.
Indian stock markets will remain closed tomorrow, 13 May 2021 on account of Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan Id).

Shares trade in narrow range; Nifty hovers at 14,800


Key indices traded in a narrow range with losses in early afternoon trade. Mixed global cues and soaring new Covid-19 cases in the country weighed on the sentiment.
At 12:28 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 389.56 points or 0.78% at 49,376.75. The Nifty 50 index slipped 94.85 points or 0.64% at 14,800.95.
In broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.2% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index gained 0.51%.
The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 1489 shares rose and 1220 shares fell. A total of 167 shares were unchanged.
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 809.37 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs), were net sellers to the tune of Rs 942.35 crore in the Indian equity market on 29 April, provisional data showed ....

Sensex soars 834 pts; broader market lags


Key indices were trading at day s high with robust gains in mid-afternoon trade. The Nifty traded above the 14,850 level. Strong buying was seen in banks, financials and auto stocks.
At 14:27 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 834.18 points or 1.7% at 49,778.87. The Nifty 50 index gained 227.95 points or 1.56% at 14,881.75.
The broader market underperformed the benchmark indices. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 1.05% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index added 0.82%.
Buyers outpaced sellers.
On the BSE, 1,832 shares rose and 1060 shares fell. A total of 178 shares were unchanged.
