Police have released the 999 call from a witness to a businessman s brutal attack on his ex-wife.
Alec Butt took a hammer and screwdriver to the head and arms of the mother of his children because he wanted to punish her for leaving him.
The 71-year-old, then of Rylestone Grove in Westbury-on-Trym, had tried to conceal himself behind a hoodie and mask. He hid behind bins, crept up on Anna Butt and repeatedly struck her outside her workplace in Whiteladies Road, Clifton. ....

A man who brutally attacked his ex-wife with a hammer and screwdriver outside her workplace has been jailed.
Alec Butt, 71, seriously injured Anna Butt s head, arms and hands after laying in wait for her on Whiteladies Road, in Bristol, on 28 December 2019.
She said: I was thinking that I was going to die .
Butt was found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and sentenced at Bristol Crown Court to seven years and nine months in jail. ....

A successful businessman has been given a seven-year sentence after he punished his ex-wife for leaving him by attacking her with a hammer and screwdriver.
Alec Butt, 71, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on Monday to seven years and nine months in prison, while he is set to serve the final third on licence.
The judge rejected Butt s claim that he had acted in self-defence as he was found guilty of grievous bodily harm against his ex-wife Anna Butt.
The trial was only held in March 2021, after being postponed due to coronavirus. When it was delayed, Anna said she felt like the world crumbled around me as she struggled to deal with the unknown . ....
