SHEBOYGAN - With about 40 people in attendance Tuesday night, Ryan J. Sorenson, 27, was sworn in as Sheboygan s new mayor by Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Dallet. I think you are all so lucky to call him your new mayor, Dallet said in her remarks. Dallet said she first met Sorenson at an event in Sheboygan when she was campaigning to be a Supreme Court justice in 2018. She said she was taken by his love for this city, his ability to connect with people and his energy. I thought to myself, this is someone who can get things done, she said. ....
Sorenson won with 4,417 votes, or 59%, to Vandersteen s 3,113 votes, 41%. I m just overwhelmed with joy and gratitude, Sorenson told The Sheboygan Press Tuesday night. Sorenson said assembling teams and evaluating the city s plans, including on affordable housing and street repairs, were top of mind. He said Michael Vandersteen s commitment to the community was strong and that Vandersteen called to congratulate him. “I am looking forward to working together with all of our residents of the city of Sheboygan to focus on how we can make Sheboygan even better a community that works for everyone and where all can thrive,” Sorenson said in a statement Tuesday night. ....
Voting by Kevin Zimmermann (WHBL) – Anyone intending to run for public office in Wisconsin’s spring election will need to file their papers by the end of the day this coming Tuesday. In Sheboygan, the offices up for grabs include the Mayor and all odd-numbered districts, one through nine in this case. Also, the District 2 aldermanic seat will be filled for a one-year term due to a replacement. Candidates began circulating their nomination papers on December 1st, and the City Clerk must receive the completed papers by 5 PM on Tuesday. Four have declared their candidacy for Mayor.
