Phil Scott stepped into the widening information void formed by a huge state Department of Labor data breach on Wednesday, appointing a deputy commissioner to the department and deploying a team to help with the immediate response. Scott also asked the state auditor, Doug Hoffer, to audit the department to find out how the error occurred and identify long-term quality improvements. Meanwhile, state lawmakers and the labor department itself are discussing an investigation of the mistakes that led to the release of personal information on misprinted 1099-G tax forms, including Social Security numbers. ....
MONTPELIER â Vermont is among 48 states that have joined together to sue Facebook for allegedly violating anti-monopoly laws. The complaint was filed in the District Court of the District of Columbia, said Christopher Curtis, chief of the Public Protection Division at the Vermont Office of the Attorney General. The Vermont attorney assigned to the case is Assistant Attorney General Ryan Kriger, who signed the complaint Dec. 3. âRyan is a very experienced practitioner and a wonderful colleague to work with, and weâre very happy to have him participate,â said Curtis. He said the Public Protection Division has seven attorneys and three investigators who can assist with litigation. ....
