Goessel School Board hears plans for summer school
The Goessel school board met on April 12 and listened to kindergarten teacher Sheri Janzen describe plans for summer school. Jill Booton, who is helping Janzen plan, also attended the meeting. Five teachers plan to be involved with summer school.
“Chilling at Summer School” is the theme. Popsicle and snow cones might be included as treats. Plans are for three weeks of summer school, 8-11 am for one group and from 12-3 pm for another group, four days each week, Monday through Thursday. The students will receive 33 hours of instruction, and a field trip is planned for the last day. In the past, summer school has been two weeks instead of three. Janzen talked about mixed age groups and scheduling siblings for the same session to make it more convenient for families. ....

VIPER Transitions, a veteran-run job training program that equips service members transitioning from military to civilian life with resources and transferable skills for a successful career, launches its first aircraft maintenance workforce program in partnership with AAR, a leading provider of aviation services for commercial and government customers worldwide.
AAR kicked off the new alliance with a $25,000 grant powered by the Lumina Foundation, an independent, private foundation committed to making opportunities for learning beyond high school available to all, to help pay for tools and equipment to be used by participants. Even with the hardships the COVID-19 pandemic has caused, Oklahoma Career Tech says there are still opportunities to work in aviation and aerospace in Oklahoma.
Thursday, Career Tech is hosting a virtual panel discussion on the latest trends and employment opportunities in aerospace.
Eddie Compton is the Aerospace and Defense Industry Liaison For Career Tech. He says, “I think sometimes people see aerospace as pilots and they think these are people who fly planes but they don’t think about the maintainers, or the engineers or the things that make that aircraft go and happen.” ....
