this one for a reason. grandma survived the great pressure because her supply chain was local and she knew how to do stuff. that s a very important concept and will come right back to it at the end of class as well. this really is sort of the theme for the day. now, in terms of what were going to be talking about, we re going to start with an overview of what the problems of the great depression were for ordinary people and sort of the depths of the problem. we will talk about how families try to cope in terms of their work strategies and about the process of asking for help in the case of a disaster like this. were going to talk about keeping families fed. what people actually do to try to put food on the table in the middle of a collapse like this. we will talk about how it changed america s food habits, and then we will come to an interesting question. did anybody starve? what was the real, sort of, impact of the great depression as far as mortality went? let s start with
okay. we re going to get started. today we re going to start our new section on nutrition and we re going to cover the aspects of food system related to health, food access, food in security and then the impact of the food system on the environment. that will be the sessiontion for the last part of the course. today we ll start out by talking a little bit about nutrition and how we got to the point of what we know what to eat or what we should eat and how that impacts the food system and how it drivers drivers what we do. this is in chapter 7 of the textbook. we re going to give a little bit of a background of the connection between food and health. how do we know we have this relationship where did it start, where did it come from? we ll talk about the macroand nitro nutrients and talk about the role of the usda and how nutrition policy is started and another section on policy and nutrition. we ll talk about new trent requirements, how the public is educated and supplemental
