u.s. immigration history for today s world. i am the chair of this roundtable session. my name is madeline shoe. i am president of the immigration and ethics history society. i am also professor of history and asian-american studies at the university of texas at austin. i co-edited the anthology on which today s session is based. a nation of immigrants reconsidered, u.s. society in an age of immigration restriction 1924 to 1965. i want to do a call out to my coeditors, we were, it was a wonderful experience working with maria garcia, who is the newman professor of american studies at cornell, and my immediate predecessor as president of the immigration and ethics history society and also met a lay-in of adolphus college, who was the one who first came up with the idea for the project. it was a wonderful collaborative expense, tremendous community and discussions and have produced an anthology that we hope will be able to contribute to how we think about this nation and it s i
