Patrick Henry Community College will hold forums, starting today, for the four finalists who are in the running to become the school’s next president. Over the next two weeks, they will tour the campus and answer questions from the community. Due to the pandemic, the forums will be held via Zoom.
Virginia Career Works will hold a statewide Virtual Hiring Event today. Companies from across Virginia will offer information about open positions. The virtual job fair runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ....

Gretna construction company breaks ground on Rustburg Middle School


GRETNA, Va. — Blair Construction Monday broke ground on the new Rustburg Middle School building.
The new 136,500-square-foot structure can hold 750 students and will cost about $41.3 million. Plans designed with future expansion in mind include an auxiliary gym, wider halls and other utilities to make expansion easier.
“Blair Construction is honored to continue its relationship with Campbell County and Campbell County Public Schools,” said President of Blair Construction Timothy Clark. “Being a part of growth in the educational sector of our region is why we do what we do. We are excited to build new infrastructure for education for the next 100 years and counting.” ....

Lynchburg artist Michelline Hall transformed an entire corridor in Lynchburg’s midtown earlier this year. What was the blank wall of a warehouse on Fort Avenue became a pantheon of 8-foot-tall portraits of Black and brown women, exploring identity, culture, ancestry and beauty standards.

Lynchburg-area school divisions report 78 new COVID-19 cases this week; Va. averaging 3,800-plus daily


School divisions in the Lynchburg area reported 79 new positive cases of COVID-19 this week, bringing the collective total of positive cases reported in Lynchburg City Schools along with Campbell, Bedford, Amherst and Nelson county school divisions to 337 since their school years began.
Lynchburg City Schools reported 16 new positive cases this week, bringing the division’s total number of cases since September to 61.
Bedford County Public Schools reported 24 new cases of COVID-19 this week, bringing its total of positive cases reported on its dashboard since September to 144. All new cases this week were traced to community, not school, transmission.
New London Academy, Otter River Elementary School, Forest Elementary School and Susie G. Gibson Science & Technology Center each saw one new case this week. Forest Middle School, Stewartsville Elementary School and Staunton River Elementary School each reported two new cases this week. ....
