A NEW training package offering online tuition in sheepdog handling is being offered by Julie Hill, the only woman to have won the prestigious International Supreme sheepdog trial.
The first teaching blocks launch in June 2021 and will run till the end of August. Participants can take part either with or without a dog, and dogs may be at any level from started dogs to fully trained. The online training explains the theory and practice of Natural Way handling and helps participants to develop their skills in the method. The courses progress through introductory, intermediate and advanced levels of handling. ....

The Scottish government has allocated funding to support training for women living and working in or studying agriculture.
The £115,000 package is part of the Women in Agriculture Practical Training Fund and can be used for a wide range of practical training, including tractor and trailer driving, sheepdog training, and education in the use of antibiotics in livestock.
The latest funding round follows an initial £100,000 committed to the scheme in December 2020.
Full funding of training costs is available up to the value of £500 a course. Applications for training with a higher cost will still be accepted and will be assessed depending on the value to the individual or business, the Scottish government said. ....

Women in the north-east are to benefit from a new scheme designed to create more opportunities in rural industries.
The Women in Rural Economy Training Fund, set up by the Scottish Government, will give women the opportunity to develop their skills thanks to training worth £100,000.
Its aim is to address a gender imbalance across sectors such as land-based engineering, conservation and aquaculture.
Lantra Scotland will administer the initiative and will provide full funding up to £500 per course. Financial support for courses costing more will be administered on a case-by-case basis. ....

The Scottish government has unveiled new schemes to help address gender inequality in the countryside, including in the farming industry.
The Women in the Rural Economy Training Fund, announced this week, will give women the chance to develop their skills and talents in the rural and aquaculture sectors.
The £100,000 fund follows the Women in Agriculture Practical Training Fund, which opened in January.
Both funds will help address the current gender imbalance within a range of industries, including conservation, fisheries, forestry, horticulture and agriculture. ....
