Rumbek communities commit to live peacefully

The communities of Rup and Athoi of Amongpiny and Cuei-gak Payams of Rumbek Central and Rumbek East Counties last week agreed to live peacefully as neighbors.
Members of the two communities participated in a two-day peace and reconciliation dialogue organized by the Peace Opportunities Fund (POF) in partnership with the ministry of peacebuilding and UNMISS civil affairs department in Lakes State capital, Rumbek.
Addressing the participants during the closing ceremony on Friday, Lakes State deputy governor Poth Madit Dut urged the two communities to refrain from inter-communal fighting and instead cultivate together and fight hunger. ....

Sectional clashes leave 13 dead in Yirol West County
At least 13 people were killed and one wounded in inter-communal clashes in Annuol Payam of Yirol West County.
The revenge attack occurred on Thursday morning last week in Amulic Cattle camp when an injured victim of earlier clashes as a result of a girl’s elopement died on Wednesday in Yirol Hospital.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the acting minister of information and communication in Lakes State, William Kocji Kerjok, said, “The situation in Annuol Payam of Yirol West County is not yet good because they are still fighting and of course there is a report of 13 people killed and the forces are trying to control the situation.” ....

3 killed, 2 wounded in Rumbek East ambushes
Police authorities in the now-defunct Western Lakes State confirmed that three men were killed, two wounded and three women were released unhurt in two separate road ambushes in Paloch Payam of Rumbek East County on Sunday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the police spokesperson in Rumbek, Captain Elijah Mabor Makuac, said they suspected the motive of the killing to be an act of revenge and or robbery between Yirol West and Rumbek East Counties of Lakes State. He blamed the attack on criminals from Yirol West County of the defunct Eastern Lakes State. ....
