Farmers discuss protest action over fresh water regulations. Pallets of bottled water were being delivered to Akaroa’s hospital and resthome, and then to Akaroa Area School on Monday. The tankers would be in place for as long as the boil water notice was in place – which could be several weeks. The dead animals were removed immediately after being discovered, and testing confirmed there was enough residual chlorine in the water to kill any bacteria but there was still a potential protozoa risk which chlorine would not kill, a Christchurch City Council statement said on Friday night.
