Now, normally when i give a talk of any description, and ive given quite a number in the last week while ive been in america, i usually have a little repertory of anecdotes with which i commence, and i had one prepared this evening. But strangely enough, something happened to me on the way here which meant that i decided to scrap it and talk about Something Else entirely. I took the subway to congress circle, and i walked up Central Park West towards the historical society, and as i was walking up the street, out of the corner of my eye i saw a bronze plaque on the wall, on the wall of a rather august looking building.
