The male birds, Myagi and Spencer, have been incubating the eggs for 25 days and six days respectively.
Kiwi will normally incubate eggs between 70-80 days.
The birds were released after heavy trapping program over the past three-to-four years by Taranaki Mounga and Kiwi Ranges Conservation Trust (KRCT).
Without the trapping programme the birds, bred at Rotokare Scenic Trust, would not have been released, Portier said. ....

Release of kiwi marks conservation milestone for Te Papakura o Taranaki

The release is a milestone in a battle against predators on Kaitake being waged - for the most part - by a small army of volunteers.
Kaitake, at 680 metres, is the oldest of the three volcanic cones in Te Papakura o Taranaki.
It forms the north-western boundary of the national park and its sun-loving semi-coastal forest reaches to the outskirts of the seaside settlement of Oakura.
