Townsville City Council continues to work with the Townsville Hospital and Health Service to ensure water being supplied to Townsville households and businesses is safe to drink.
Townsville Public Health Unit director Dr Steven Donohue reassured the community that the water is safe to drink.
“There is absolutely no relationship or correlation between the colour of the water and the safety of the water,” Dr Donohue said.
“Water colouration can be impacted by a range of naturally occurring minerals and pigments that are purely cosmetic.
“Townsville’s water supply continues to meet all the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines for safe consumption of water.” ....

Severe storm dumps heavy rain over Townsville

As many slept, a severe thunderstorm rolled over the region dumping large amounts of rain.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Shane Kennedy said the highest rainfall was recorded at Vincent where 90mm fell in the space of an hour at about 1am.
The gauge recorded a total of 101mm since 9am yesterday, the highest in the state.
Mr Kennedy said the severe storm cell was isolated just over Townsville and the surrounding areas with Rollingstone and Ayr avoiding the brunt of the weather.
It was caused by a south easterly surge pushing up the coast, Mr Kennedy said.

As the wind picks up, the rain increases and the seas become rougher, north Queensland residents are making their final preparations for category two Tropical Cyclone Kimi to make landfall.
The warning zone extends from Innisfail to Ayr, including Lucinda, Palm Island and Townsville, with the system 30 kilometres east-south-east of Cairns and 195 kilometres north of Townsville.
Cyclone Kimi is hanging off the Queensland coast, near Cairns.

The Bureau of Meteorology warned the cyclone could generate wind gusts up to 150 km/h between Ayr and Hinchinbrook Island, and dump heavy rain and cause major flooding between Innisfail and Bowen. ....
