A Michigan football assistant had the highest base salary of all the coaches in the university’s athletic department in 2020.
Defensive coordinator Don Brown received a base salary of $1.1 million, according to UM’s 2020 salary report, but he hardly was the highest-paid coach. Some head coaches, like Jim Harbaugh (football) and Juwan Howard (men’s basketball) received most of their income through compensation, such as bonuses and incentives.
