Imee wants 'digital X-ray' assessment on heritage sites

Imelda Josefa "Imee" Marcos on Thursday said a "digital X-ray" of northern Luzon's heritage sites should be done to determine the extent of the damage caused by a magnitude 7 earthquake that hit the area on Wednesday. Marcos made the suggestion during a visit to Bangued, Abra with his brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., where a briefing was held with national and local government agencies to determine the extent of the tremblor's damage. DPWH completes P66-M flood mitigation structures in La Union

(Photo courtesy of DPWH) MANILA - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Saturday the completion of two flood mitigating structures worth over PHP66 million in La Union. DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan said in a statement that the twin projects will protect lives and properties in three villages in the municipalities of Sudipen and Agoo. An eight-meter high revetment wall was constructed along the riverbanks of Amburayan River in Sudipen, spanning 260 meters in Barangay Porporiket. A total of PHP27.99 million was allocated under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA) for the project implemented by La Union First District Engineering Office from February to April. The La Union Second District Engineering Office, meanwhile, completed 14 flood control structures in Agoo to benefit residents of the villages of San Julian Norte and San Julian West. DPWH opens 7-km Urdaneta Bypass Road in Pangasinan

The bypass road crosses two major road intersections of Urdaneta-Dagupan Road and Urdaneta-Manaoag Provincial Road.
Public Work and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, who led the ceremonial inauguration, said the project  is seen to address traffic bottlenecks during peak hours along Manila North Road in Urdaneta City and establish an improved national road system in the province of Pangasinan.
It is expected to reduce travel time between Villasis town proper to Binalonan to just 30 minutes and will benefit about 38,000 daily motorists.
A total of P1.885 billion was spent to implement the project.
According to DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan, the Urdaneta Bypass Road Project involves construction of six lanes portland concrete cement pavement including sidewalk, drainage and slope protection, and installation of solar street lights. ....
