With only about 43% of Vigo County vaccinated, a committee decided to get creative to spread the importance of receiving a vaccination. A committee at The Vigo County Health Department created an Instagram and TikTok account called, Vaccinate the Valley to encourage people to get vaccinated. ....

Today was day one of Indiana State University’s new mask mandate. Face coverings are required inside of all indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status. In a press release, the school’s president, Deborah Curtis, said the mandate is in accordance with recommendations by both the CDC and ISDH. Student Jacob Shepard says he’s not surprised to see new protocols implemented. “I kind of saw this coming with Coronavirus cases on the rise. For the most part, the United States has been saying you should still wear a mask. That’s what the CDC has been telling us for awhile. If you want to be protected, just keep your mask on,” Shepard said. ....

(WTWO/WAWV) After the release of new CDC guidelines and new variants of COVID-19 being detected locally, health officials are reviewing mitigation strategies in the Wabash Valley. Per the CDC, masks should be worn indoors where there are high virus transmission rates, even if someone is fully vaccinated. Both Knox and Vigo County have seen an increase in COVID-19 positivity rates and hospitalizations. While neither area has a mask mandate, officials said this is a determining moment on what the next few months may look like. Knox County jumped from a blue county to orange within a matter of weeks and has a positivity rate of 7.7%. The Indiana Department of Health has confirmed Knox County has seven Delta variant cases and one Gamma variant case, a strain that originated in Brazil. ....
