WWII, Korea veteran Wallace Anderson Taylor buried in Louisville


LOUISVILLE, Ky. Wallace Anderson Taylor, a World War II and Korean War veteran named a Kentucky Colonel for his military service, died in February at the age of 96. Having outlived most of his family, his remains were, officially, unclaimed.
But on Sunday, as he entered his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, for the final time, Taylor was anything but alone.
Dozens gathered at the Arch L. Heady Resthaven Cemetery on Bardstown Road for his funeral after hearing of the six-state procession escorting him back to Louisville from the Tampa, Florida, community where he lived in his later years.
That procession, which included members of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, law enforcement and some of Taylor s Florida caregivers, arrived at the cemetery an hour early because they had to skip their final planned stop because of the growing size of the escort. ....

WWII and Korean War veteran gets escorted home in a three-day funeral procession

SARASOTA The three-day, six-state funeral procession of an unclaimed World War II/Korean War veteran for a reunion with his mother commenced at dawn Friday, escorted by Tampa s Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association and the Florida Highway Patrol.
A hearse carrying the body of Wallace Anderson Taylor is bound for the Arch L. Heady Resthaven Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky, where he will be buried with full military honors at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Unmarried, and leaving behind no surviving relatives, Taylor of Zephyrhills died at 96 in February and faced the unceremonious prospects of being interred with little formal recognition. But one of his closest friends, Rob Lynch, a Veterans Experience Officer at Tampa s James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, alerted the nonprofit Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association to Taylor s status. ....
